Larry Langford, Bible Thumper, Revisited.
You may recall Larry Langford, mayor of Birmingham, AL. I wrote about him in April when he decided the way to address the growing crime rate in his city was to hand out 5,000 Bibles and 2,000 sackcloths. Why? Because praying and reading the Bible is the cure for everything.
Well, it turns out that just arrested by the FBI for bribery and money laundering. Perhaps he forgot to keep a Bible and sackcloth for himself. Or more likely his cure for crime was complete and total bunk. Research has shown time and time again that secular nations have higher quality of living, lower crime, lower mortality rates, etc. Countries that are gripped by religious mania have just the opposite.
Langford got results, to be sure. I highly doubt they’re the ones he desired, but they’re definitely results.
Perhaps they’ll allow him a sackcloth and Bible in prison…
