Washington: Second Attempt to Block R 71 Fails in Court.

Now it’s officially up to “the people” to decide if LGBT people in Washington deserve the rights they take for granted. Because, you know, civil rights are always something to be put to a popularity vote.

A Thurston County Superior Court judge on Tuesday rejected the latest attempt to keep a measure aimed at overturning the state’s new, expanded same-sex domestic partner rights off the November ballot.

Washington Families Standing Together filed a lawsuit in Thurston County Superior Court last week after a King County Superior Court judge rejected the group’s attempt to block Referendum 71, saying that any such effort had to be made in Thurston County after the measure qualified for the ballot.

Thurston County Superior Court Judge Thomas McPhee issued his ruling Tuesday afternoon.

Once again the bigots prove that lying, bullying and outright subterfuge will get you everywhere. And I’m left wondering why decent people even bother trying.
