Out of the Mouths of (Untainted) Babes.

Thursday, March 11th, 2010

The RRRWers are constantly screaming about children being “taught gay marriage” in schools. They go into a frenzy any time a school implements a non-discrimination program that attempts to teach students that it’s bad to bully LGBT people. For at least two months before the annual Day of Silence they rend their garments and make outrageous claims about the student’s silence “disrupting” classes and indoctrinating others into the “homosexual lifestyle”. Why do they do all of this?

It’s that simple. Children who haven’t been taught to hate aren’t bigots. It’s only when they are indoctrinated with lies like “god says gays are bad” and “there’s only one acceptable type of family” that the bigotries take root. And, of course, the RRRWers don’t want all of their hard work undone by some lib’rul school system that teaches crazy things like “do unto others”. That’s not something Jesus would have espoused.

So while they rant about the schools “indoctrinating” their children into homosexuality they actually fear just the opposite. They fear their children will be un-indoctrinated, and begin to reject the dogma they’ve been fed from the time they were born. They fear their children will see through all of the lies they’ve been told about LGBT people and their families. And then the children will begin to wonder what other lies their parents have told them…

Vote For My Kittens and Help Other Animals!

Saturday, February 13th, 2010

I’ve entered Taz and Bonkers in the Humane Society Spay Day 2010 Photo Contest.

Spay Day is The Humane Society of the United States’ and Humane Society International’s annual event to inspire people to save animals’ lives by spaying or neutering pets and feral cats.

So what’s in it for us? Well, there are lots of cool prizes we could win. But the real benefit is for the HSUS and other charities. They get donations from the people who vote, and that’s where you come in…

I’m asking you to vote for Taz and/or Bonkers. Each vote requires a $1 donation to the Humane Society, and you can give as many votes as you like.

Of course if you see other pets you like then by all means give them some votes. The Humane Society needs the support!

Thank you and enjoy all of the pets!

Happy Thanksgiving! (Hail Seitan!)

Thursday, November 26th, 2009

Today is a day to give thanks and eat turkey (or a reasonable facsimile, if you’re a veg*n like me) with all the trimmings. The next week or so people will be devising creative ways to use their leftovers. How many unique dishes can you make with turkey anyway?

Where does Seitan come in? I haven’t forgotten how to spell, nor is it a reference to Lucifer (not that there’s anything wrong with that). Seitan is a wheat gluten product used in many veg*n meat substitutes including Tofurkey. It is one of the many things I’m thankful for.

I’m also thankful many other things including;
*My lovely wife,
*The rest of my family (mom, dad, sisters, brothers, etc.),
*My crazy kittens,
*Books, movies, music, my knitting,
*My computer, the Internet,
*The pharmaceuticals that help with my migraines (though I’d appreciate some health insurance to offset the costs–a one month supply is at least $212)

I wish you all a Happy Thanksgiving. May you have a wonderful time with family and friends, and have much to be thankful for.

It’s a Boy! And a Girl!

Wednesday, June 10th, 2009

As some readers may recall, Sapphocrat and I were married on August 9, 2008. Like many married couples we came to the conclusion it was time to expand our family. Our twins came into the world on March 24, 2009. Now I don’t want to hear any sniggers about that only being seven months after our wedding. They’re adopted.

Bonkers and Taz Commandeer Grandma’s Chair After She Goes to Bed.

Needless to say both kittens promptly found the computer keyboards and began typing. Taz (our girl) says “.,l5;4lfrrr`1322222222222222222″ and Bonkers says, “aws9s0qp/45″. They’ve also discovered how to bring up Google and Firefox Help. I can only imagine what they’ll learn in the coming weeks.

Fear not. This won’t turn into one of those OMG look at what my little one did today! blogs where every sneeze, poo and scribble is documented in great detail. In the future the cats will only appear when they have something relevant to say.

Experts: Gay Marriage Won’t Hurt Kids.

Wednesday, March 11th, 2009

I already knew this of course. But every time I see a story about it I like to put it up since it refutes the lies the bigots spread.

Vermont’s leading mental health and human service organizations joined in support of gay marriage Monday.

The Vermont Psychological Association, the Vermont Psychiatric Association, the Vermont Association of Mental Health Counselors, and the Vermont chapter of the National Association of Social Workers, all say legalizing gay marriage would help the children of same-sex couples. The group says allowing gay couples to marry validates their relationships, could reduce discrimination and increases benefits for the families.

Opponents have argued that gay marriage is detrimental to children. But mental health experts say studies show that’s not true and that opponents are instead misrepresenting studies about divorced parents.

“We felt it was important for us to set the record straight about the scholarly literature in our field and we have lots of different families and the best thing to do for all children is to support parents the best way we can,” said Jackie Weinstein, of UVM Human Development & Families Studies.

….

But the bigots don’t actually care about the children. Children are merely pawns and weapons in their war against LGBT people. They’ll ignore this just like they do all facts.
