Sally Kern Can Dish It Out, But She Can’t Take It.

Wednesday, March 19th, 2008

Sally KernOklahoma Representative Sally Kern’s anti-gay rant has been very much in the news lately. She continued to defend her hate speech, claiming it was merely the “Biblical truth”. But when given the chance to share her “Biblical truth” with people of the LGBT community (including members of her own constituency) who visited the Capitol on Tuesday, Sally was nowhere to be found.

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) - An Oklahoma lawmaker rejected demands by gay and lesbian groups on Tuesday that she apologize for anti-gay remarks in which she said homosexuality poses a bigger threat to the U.S. than terrorism.

“I see no reason to apologize for what God says, that homosexuality is a sin,” Rep. Sally Kern, R-Oklahoma City, said after 300 people rallied at the state Capitol and called for an end to hate speech.

“I will not apologize. I did not say anything false. I did not say anything malicious or hateful,” Kern said. “They are trying to vilify me. That is their tactics.”

Sally said a lot more than “God says homosexuality is a sin” and she knows it. This tactic of saying dozens of hateful lies then trying to claim you merely quoted one or two Bible verses to pretend you’re being persecuted for one’s faith is disingenuous at best. But it works, so they keep using it.

And Sally is not the one being vilified here. She isn’t the one that was identified as “worse than terrorists”, compared to pedophiles and made out to be destroyers of civilizations. So she needs to stop playing the martyr.

Spokespersons for gay and lesbian groups demanded that Kern apologize while calling on the Legislature to adopt hate crimes legislation that would enhance penalties for crimes directed at gays and lesbians.

“Hateful speech leads to hate crimes,” said Rob Howard, executive director of the Cimarron Alliance Foundation in Oklahoma City. Howard said there were more than 7,700 hate crimes in the nation in 2006, including 79 in Oklahoma.

Howard and other speakers questioned how Kern can take an oath to uphold the state Constitution but then condemn a segment of the state’s population.

“Freedom of speech does not belong to Representative Kern alone,” said Howard, adding that gay and lesbian groups have a “moral imperative” to speak out against her remarks.

“If we do not condemn hate speech from an elected public official, we in effect endorse it,” said the Rev. Robin Meyers, pastor of the Mayflower United Church of Christ in Oklahoma City. “This represents the state of Oklahoma in a way that is deeply offensive.”

I doubt Sally Kern will ever recognize what she said as hate speech. No doubt she’ll keep defending it as “the truth” as stated in her Bible. But what she said was hate speech, and the fact that she said it in her capacity as an elected official gives the words that much more power. She should be doubly ashamed for what she has said, and for defending herself in the way she has.

Members of the group had planned to invite Kern to the noon rally but were told she had already left the Capitol. No state lawmaker attended the rally.

Kern said she was pleased that gay and lesbian groups expressed their views.

“That’s great they came to the Capitol. This is a free country. They’re exercising their First Amendment right,” Kern said.

But she said she was not interested in speaking to members of the group. She said she has received more than 30,000 e-mails about her comments, including some threatening ones, and that an activist had tried to intimidate her husband, a Baptist minister, by showing up at his church on Sunday.

“They’re sending out letters and making calls in my district. And they really want me to come down and talk to them?” Kern said. “It would be like throwing myself to the lions. That’s a metaphor.

“When I am wrong, and it is brought to my attention, I will apologize.”

If she feels she is so justified in her words then why doesn’t she have the spine to stand there and back them up to the people she have harmed with them? I guess it’s only safe to make hateful statements like that in the safety of a closed room when she knows she’s among other bigots like herself. But if one is going to hold public office, one needs to have the spine to stand up for what one says against opposing opinion. It appears Sally the coward doesn’t have that. No surprise. Bullies typically don’t.

The Twits Keep on Coming.

Wednesday, March 19th, 2008

Republican homophobes have been crawling out of the woodwork lately. First there was Sally Kern, then Mary Frances Forrester. Now make way for Oregon State Senator Gary George

In his first media interview since coming forward as co-sponsor of the initiative to repeal the recently enacted Oregon Equality Act – an anti-discrimination law for sexual minorities – George railed against gay activists and affirmative action, and warned that if gays continued to be “oppressive toward straights,” they were in danger of “violent backlash.”

The full interview will appear in the March 21 issue of Just Out, but excerpts are included below.

Just Out: Why are you sponsoring this repeal initiative?

State senator Gary George: I’ve had people approach me for special rights for homosexuals and I don’t believe anyone should have special rights. I’ve had members of the gay community come in and ask and I’ll say I’m sorry I don’t give anyone special rights.

That’s just what people like Senator George don’t get. They aren’t special rights, they’re equal rights.

Just Out: What sort of special rights do you feel that the Oregon Equality Act offers?

George: First off, I thought that was a fabrication of definition, in the sense that you gave special rights, it picks out another group, a lifestyle group, and says hmm, you have all these protections. The main thing that bothered us with the whole bill was the fact that here we go again, adding one more class of people that need to have special rights.

Just Out:
Can you give an example?

George:
If I discriminate in favor of you it automatically requires I discriminate against someone else. I was hoping with your generation we can stop calling each other ‘asian-american,’ or ‘latino-american…’ There’s one talk show host, and he has really severe hard feelings against affirmative action. Because of the race that he is, I believe he’s Italian, he was discriminated against because he’s not black. I have dear dear friends in the legislature who are black but sometimes I really get tired of hearing about their color.

So Senator George outs himself as a racist in addition to a homophobe. He seems to have so many issues withe the labels other people have and apply to themselves, and considers the rights they get/want to be “special”. I wonder why he doesn’t think the same of his labels and rights. I’ll assume he’s Christian, for example, and he’s certainly not going to be giving up his right to protection from discrimination based on his religion. Nor would he give up his right to protection from race based hate crimes (yes, white people are protected too). Nor would he dream of forfeiting his right to prosecute if he were the victim of gender related bias. Yet he wishes to keep others from having the same (read: equal) rights he has.

Just Out: What if an employee is fired because of his/her sexual orientation or gender identity? Isn’t the Oregon Equality Act in place to guard against such discrimination?

George: As an employer, I don’t wanna hear about it. This workplace is for work purposes. My advice to the gay community is SHUT UP, just don’t talk about it. If you walk around talking about what you do in the bedroom, you should be on the pervert channel.

Senator George, when your straight employees come in and talk about the dates they had over the weekend do you tell them to SHUT UP? When they talk about their upcoming weddings do you tell them to SHUT UP? When they start passing around pictures of their children, which are nothing more than evidence of their unprotected sex, do you scream “SHUT UP–I DON’T WANT TO HEAR ABOUT WHAT YOU DO IN THE BEDROOM!!!” ? If not, then you are nothing but a homophobe, Senator George.

Just Out: What is your reaction to the recent murders of out gay youth in Florida and California?

George: Obviously murder is murder, there’s no excuse for that. Here’s what I’m saying, I think we’re seeing a backlash, in other words if you push me too hard don’t be surprised if I react. Gays will tend to react violently if people are oppressive toward them. If gays are oppressive toward straights, then you’ll see a violent backlash. You’re going to have a point where these groups develop and say I’m tired of these special privileges.

Just Out: Are you suggesting that gays, by virtue of being out and open, are inciting these types of violent reactions?

George: You have to recognize for every action there’s a reaction…we’re obviously not gonna tolerate anyone who beats up any other person.

If you do feel like you’ve been discriminated against as a gay, you have hard feelings. I remember when I was heavy and wore glasses as a child and I was picked on. We all know the gay person that nobody notices – I think that is where we need to head. Everybody knows where the line is, so when I see I’m offending someone, I have to back away from that. We have to adjust our behavior so as to not be offensive. If you push anyone too hard, they will react.

Translation: Get back in your closets you homos, and then you won’t get beaten up and killed so much. And anyway getting brutally murdered is really not much worse than getting picked on for wearing glasses.

I honestly feel ill after reading Senator George’s interview (and that was the abridged version). The hateful screeds of Sally Kern and Mary Frances Forrester were far enough off the deep end that most people will see them for what they were–the incredibly bigoted tirades of homophobes. But this man is deadly calm and rational in his hatred, and that is what makes him more frightening and dangerous than the other two. The thought that he could influence minds in his state is quite unnerving.

Hate Touches the Third Generation.

Friday, March 7th, 2008

For most of us the horrors of The Holocaust are something we experience in history classes, movies and television shows. For one young Pennsylvania man it was much more than that. His grandfather, who had been imprisoned in Auschwitz, gave him a first-hand account of the events. Now anti-Semitic hatred has been visited on the young man himself, in the form of a violent attack.

“He told me stories about the Holocaust, but I thought I’d never have to live through a hate crime,” said the student, who suffered a broken nose and a fractured orbital bone in the attack. “I never thought I’d have to deal with a hate crime.”

…..

Four Temple students were suspended by the university last week and the attack was strongly condemned by school president Ann Weaver Hart, who wrote: “Hate crimes will not be tolerated by Temple University.”

The four suspects - Michael Walsh, 20, of Florham Park, N.J.; David Scott, 20, and Steven Scott, 19, two brothers from Willow Grove, Montgomery County; and Bryan Pediero, 19, of East Brunswick, N.J. - turned themselves into Philadelphia police on Wednesday and yesterday to face the music, police said.

The four were charged with aggravated assault, simple assault, reckless endangerment of another person, ethnic intimidation and criminal conspiracy, police spokeswoman Officer Christine O’Brien said.

…..

Temple police have video of the incident in front of Alpha Epsilon Pi house on North Broad Street near Norris, cops said.

The 23-year-old victim and his 22-year-old friend had emerged from the Owl’s Nest Pizza shop around 1:30 a.m. and were swarmed by a group of young men, police said.

The victim remembers that seven males walked up to him and his friend, who is not a Temple student.

“You f—ing Jews! You f—ing [Jewish epithet]!” are the chants he remembers from that early Friday morning.

“Are you part of this f—ing Jewish fraternity?” at least one asked.

They punched him in the face, he remembers.

When his grandfather heard about the attack, “he cried,” the young man said.

Since the beating, the victim said he walks around in fear - scared that he’ll be a victim of a hate crime again. *

It is my fervent hope that the perpetrators get the maximum possible sentences for what they have done. The notion that dislike of another person allows one to cause harm to them is one that I find particularly abhorrent.

To the victim and his grandfather I offer my deepest condolences. This should never have happened, and if I had my way it never would have.

Does this creep you out as much as it does me?

There are two likely possibilities. These children may grow up to be RRRW whackjob fundamentalists just as their parents have trained them to be. Alternatively they’ll rebel against the repressive, noxious upbringing and ditch religion altogether. I hope the latter is the case for the good of the children and the world.

When a Young Progressive Hero Meets the Rabid Right

Ava LowryAva Lowry is the driven teen behind Peace Takes Courage and Ava’s Army. She has also created an amazing series of videos that have drawn both ardent fans and, sadly, vicious opponents.

Ava’s latest video presents some of the hate-mail she has received from RWers over time. Viewers are warned that there is hate-speech, excessively foul language and other content unfit for children and those with delicate constitutions.

The Moral Values Party indeed. Those who threaten or wish harm upon others over a difference of opinion are truly depraved. But I expect nothing more from the party that resorts to bullying at every turn.

I commend Ava for continuing her quest to advance the cause of peace, encourage the youth of America to believe in themselves, and make the world safe for progressive causes. Ava is a true asset to America and the world.

Traditional Values Coalition violates the 9th Commandment…Again.

Thursday, January 24th, 2008

The Traditional Values Coalition proves itself incapable of telling the truth in its quest to harm LGBTs and rake in money for it’s anti-gay agenda. This time they’ve produced a pitiful video that concludes with an offer for $4 propaganda tracts which, of course, have no facts whatsoever. Much like the video.

The video attempts to equate homosexuality and pedophilia. This is one of the longstanding RRRW lies. The facts:

The Reality of Pedophilia

We get often caught in a semantic conflict when discussing the sexual abuse and molestation of children. Depending upon our exact definitions of terms, it can be shown:

1. that homosexual abuse of children is widespread, and
2. that abuse of boys by gays is rare, and
3. that the abuse of girls by lesbians is rarer still.

If we define the phrase “homosexual abuse of children” in the first statement to mean adults molesting and abusing children of the same sex, then this statement is true: Child sexual abuse is widespread. It is perpetrated by males in the vast majority of cases. And a substantial minority of their victims are boys. Data relating to men abusing boys is hungrily pounced upon by opponents to equal rights for homosexuals, who often use it against both gays and lesbians in civil rights battles. But it is not homosexuals, as the term is generally understood, who are responsible for the abuse. It is rather pedophiles who are attracted to children, and have decided to abuse them.

However, if we define the phrase “abuse of boys by gays”, and “abuse of girls by lesbians” to mean adult persons with a homosexual orientation abusing children of the same sex, then these statements 2 and 3 above are also true. Gays and lesbians rarely abuse children.

The fact behind these conflicting statements is that most pedophiles are not homosexuals! Or to put it another way, most homosexual molestation is not done by homosexuals.

The video also claims that LGBTs are putting out studies showing that adult/child sex is not harmful. We are? Where are these alleged studies and who published them? TVC fails to cite their sources, of course, because they assume that their word as a “Christian organization” is good enough.

The video claims we should not be given laws protecting us from hate crimes. Why not? People such as the members of the TVC are given protection from hate crimes based on their religion. So why should we be left unprotected? The hatred of the TVC is extensive.

TVC then states we should not be able to “promote” homosexuality in schools. Since when are we doing that? I have yet to see anybody going into schools and telling children to become gay. Telling children that gay people exist, and that being gay is not a bad thing is not “promoting” homosexuality, regardless of what bigots like the TVC believe.

The video then goes on to claim that we should not be able to marry or adopt children. More bigotry. There is no reason aside from religious bigotry that LGBT individuals should not be able to marry and/or adopt. No reasons at all.

I have some suggestions for the Traditional Values Coalition. Pick up your Bibles–I assume you have those, no? Turn to Exodus 20:16. Commit it to memory and try to live by it. Now turn to Matthew 7:12, commit that to memory and try to live by it. When you’re able to do those two things get back to me. Until then I don’t want to hear a thing out of you, you malevolent hypocrites.

Bigoted morons to picket Heath Ledger’s funeral.

Wednesday, January 23rd, 2008

The hate-filled members of the Westboro Baptist Church plan to picket Heath Ledger’s funeral because of his role in Brokeback Mountain. They’ve produced this lovely news release to announce their intentions and their glee over their belief that Heath is burning in hell.

If WBC and the Phelps family were truly moral they’d be protesting things that are really abominations. May I suggest any, or all, of the following:

The Darfur Conflict.

Starving child Darfur

Hungry and starving people, including 13 million children, right here in the USA.

47 million Americans without health insurance.

Two years later New Orleans is still in shambles from Hurricane Katrina. It’s just a bunch of poor black people, so who cares?
9thward 2007

But what am I thinking? RRRW fundies never care about anything of substance. Doing so would take real time, effort, money and above all, a conscience.

Racist radio host’s award revoked. RWers protest.

Friday, January 18th, 2008

Right-wing radio host Bob Grant was due to receive a 2008 Lifetime Industry Achievement Award from industry magazine Radio & Records Inc.. Alas, the magazine withdrew its award on Wednesday.

In a statement, R&R said that it did not want the award “to imply our endorsement of past comments by him that contradict our values and the respect we have for all members of our community.”

That’s their prerogative. As a private company they don’t have to hand out their awards to anybody they don’t want to.

The right wing is furious at R&R’s revocation. Levin has written a protest letter to the publication, and Hannity is trying to organize a boycott against R&R’s upcoming convention.

RWers organizing a boycott? What’s new?

In 1996, Grant was fired for his on-air comments wishing the death of Commerce Secretary Ron Brown. But that remark was only the tip of his offensive, racist speech during his 60 years in broadcasting. A sampling:

Stating that he had been praying for the death of basketball star Magic Johnson, Grant implored, “Why is it taking so long for the HIV to go into full-blown AIDS?” [10/1/92]

“Minorities are the Big Apple’s majority, you don’t need the papers to tell you that, walk around and you know it. To me, that’s a bad thing. I’m a white person.” [Newsday, 6/2/92]

Referring to black churchgoers, Grant said, “I can’t take these screaming savages, whether they’re in that A.M.E. Church, the African Methodist church, or in the street, burning, robbing, looting.” [4/30/93]

Grant onced claimed that the United States has “millions of sub-humanoids, savages, who really would feel more at home careening along the sands of the Kalahari or the dry deserts of eastern Kenya-people who, for whatever reason, have not become civilized.” [1/6/92]

“I’d like to get every environmentalist, put them up against a wall and shoot them.” [New York Times, 4/18/96]

Grant said that he hoped that President Clinton would “exchange bodily fluids” with an HIV-positive immigrant. [New York Times, 4/18/96]

Grant referred to former New York Mayor David N. Dinkins, an African-American man, as a “washroom attendant.” [New York Times, 4/18/96]

In that case I fully commend R&R’s decision to revoke the award. This sort of filth is what the so-called “Family Values” crowd supports? Apparently, to some, hate is a Family Value.

Every now and then I stop by Fundies Say The Darndest Things to get some laughs. Now pour yourself a drink, grab some popcorn and prepare to laugh (or not). We start with the theories about atheism and hatred of atheists.

No, everyone is born Christian. Only later in life do people choose to stray from Jesus and worship satan instead.Atheists have the greatest “cover” of all, they insist they believe in no god yet most polls done and the latest research indicates that they are actually a different sect of Muslims.

Athiests as a Majority

This is what it would be like, if the majority of people were athiests.
ATHIEST KID: Mom, I’m going to go fuck a hooker.
ATHIEST MOM: Okay, son.
ATHIEST KID: Afterwards, I’m going to go smoke pot with my friends, since it’s “not addictive.”
ATHIEST MOM: Okay, come home soon!

The athiest kid leaves the room. The father comes home from work several minutes later.

ATHIEST DAD: Hey!
ATHIEST MOM: Hi, honey! I’m pregnant again. I guess I’ll just get another abortion, since “fetuses don’t count as human life.”
ATHIEST DAD: Okay, get as many abortions as you want!
ATHIEST MOM: Oh, and don’t go in the bedroom.
ATHIEST DAD: Why not?
ATHIEST MOM: There are two gay men fucking eachother in there.
ATHIEST DAD: Why are they here?
ATHIEST MOM: I wanted to watch them do it for awhile. They just aren’t finished yet.
ATHIEST DAD: Okay, that’s fine with me!

Suddenly, their neighbor runs into the house.

ATHIEST NEIGHBOR: Come quick, there’s a Christian outside!
ATHIEST MOM: We’ll be right there!

The athiest couple quickly put on a pair of black robes and hoods. They then exit the house, and run into the street, where a Christian is nailed to a large, wooden X. He is being burned alive. A crowd of athiests stand around him, all wearing black robes and hoods.

RANDOM ATHIEST: Damn you, Christian! We hate you! We claim to be tolerant of all religions. But we really hate your’s! That’s because we athiests are hypocritical like that! Die, Christian!

THE END

Scary, isn’t it?

Of course they also hate Teh Gays.

Just recently my son Bobby came out to me. I had been worried for awhile. His teachers said most of his grades were slipping and he seemed depressed and withdrawn.

Bobby said he’d been hiding it for awhile because he was afraid I would reject him. I sat him down and told him that I loved him and that God loved him, but that his salvation was in danger if he did not resist his unnatural tempations. I told him how being gay would mean he would live a shorter life, and that if he couldnt change his orientation he could be celibate like most the ex-gays are. He started crying saying something along the lines of “I knew you wouldnt understand! You’re just like everyone else!” before running to his room and slamming the door.

What did I do wrong? I dont want to lose my son, but I fear I already have. I talked it over with his therapist, who had the ludicrous idea that homosexuality was unchangable and that trying to repress could lead to lots of psychological damage (I’ve dropped him and will try to be finding another therapist with more moral beliefs). I wouldnt be surprised if he’s the one who’s feeding my son all the homosexual propaganda about how its ‘ok’ to be gay. That, or how homosexuality has engulfed the media, making it seem ‘cool’ and ‘hip’ and how they were just another oppressed minority. You didnt have to worry about seeing two men making out on tv at my age! I dont want to sound like a fanatic, but Im worried what other effects will come out of this increasingly secular, immoral society obsessed with filth.

Am I too late? Or is it possible to save my son

[Note: the boy eventually took his own life.]

The only solution we have to stop gays from recruiting other people is to cut off the source. They need to be taken to specialized containment centers where they will be forced to become straight and accept Jesus as thier savior and to repent from their disgusting, wicket, hatful, devilish ways. Those that refuse to go can either be forced, or banished from society in other specialized communities where they have no connetion to the outside world at all. Most would die of AIDS anyway. Anyone who refused any of the answers to make them better would have to be killed or banished.

And here’s somebody’s theory as to why children are born with disabilities.

[about a girl being born with mental disabilities]

This girl is like a leper so what she needs to do is try and find god

if she really believes she can be healed from this state, she will be healed from this state

Most afflictions like this are caused by sins committed while still inside the womb. If she can repent for what she does god will embrace her and make her as human as you or me but if she chooses not to she’ll always be like this

god tests every one of us [emphasis added]

Tell me this, theSAVED. A blind woman has profound mental retardation and a mental age equivalence of about 9-months. Yes, that is a great company. I bought one of their large print version (old eyes… what can I say?).

The only thing I don’t like about them is they sell foreign language versions of the KJB. I don’t think that’s right. We know the only true translation is the 1600’s version in English.

It’s too risky for anybody to translate that into other languages. Mistakes can creep in… and that can lead to heresy. True Christians should only read English.

Do you know what medical students are exposed to as they are learning about medicine? In one college course, students were required to “examine” other stripped down students! This is abominable. Is it worth it to go through that kind of education and ignore God’s Word? Looking on nakedness is a shameful and intolerable thing. And most employment for doctors and nurses requires looking on other people’s nakedness (bathing patients, giving shots, operating, examining, etc.) What will we do as people who have been bought at the very high price of the blood of God? What will be most important to us? Our careers… or our integrity as priests of God?

Jesus lovers in Indianapolis

I’d be interested to hear how you expect them to examine, diagnose and treat you with all of your clothes on. Idiot.

Now remember Meg? She was the one who thought gay people should be forcibly converted to Christianity, put in containment centers or exterminated. Well she’s back and playing the Christian Persecution Card.

This past spring I was expelled from my high school. Why? Because I’m a Christian. There was a girl in my class who was wiccan, and I didn’t want demons to possess me or anyone else and save her from satan. So, I told her that her faith was evil and told her to accept Jesus as Savior and she would be saved. Simple as that. Just say the sinners prayer and you can be saved!

Well I got sent to the principal for that. She said I was ‘discriminating’ against her religion. I was only doing what the Bible, God, Jesus and my pastor said! How is that wrong!?

Well, afterwards I was forced to aplologize, even though it’s a sin to, so I never meant what I said. So, instead I put a copy of a Jack Chick tract in her locker about how wicca and a paganism lead to murder, rape and other horrible things because it lets the devil get inside of you. I also left a little note about how she was going to hell. I was hoping she would see the error of her ways and repent from the evil, disgusting ‘religion’.

Instead I was called down to the principal again and this time there were two police officers there. And they said I was under arrest for harrasing this girl and threatening her! What did I do? I just wanted her to accept Jesus and be saved! Now her family (all evil, stupid, disgusting god hating wiccans) want to sue me for discrimination and creating a hostile workplace! How is that fair? She’s the one who’s discriminating against me because I’m one with the LORD!
Jesus is the only way to salvation! It’s that simple people! No pope, wicca, or anything stupid like that! JESUS ONLY! Why is is wrong to tell others that? It’s all the fault of the ACLU and simlar atheist organizations trying to destroy us Christians. Next they’ll want to genocide us for doing our Godly work.

Meg,

Meg, Meg, Meg. Have they gotten your meds right yet?
