David Vitter is Outraged over ACORN Prostitution Scandal.

Pennsylvania is famous for its pretzels, and State Representative Daryl Metcalfe (R, Idiot) has a pretzel for a brain. What else could explain such convoluted thinking?
…..
So it took many people by surprise when a resolution designating October as Domestic Violence Awareness Month was derailed Wednesday by Rep. Daryl Metcalfe (R., Butler), who claimed it “had a homosexual agenda.”The Western Pennsylvania legislator said he detected that agenda in this phrase: “one in six women and one in 33 men have experienced an attempted or completed rape.”
…..
Metcalfe, in an interview yesterday, said he opposed the resolution because it went beyond what he considered traditional domestic-violence programs that help battered women and children.“It had language woven through it that brought men into the situation,” said Metcalfe, who voted for similar resolutions in the last two years. “I don’t support the resolution or funding for groups that go beyond helping women.”
So admitting the fact that men experience domestic abuse, including rape, is part of The Homosexual Agenda? Riiiiight.
Metcalfe said that although the resolution was symbolic and did not authorize any funding, it could be seen as promoting groups that serve homosexuals.
Only to the utterly unhinged, like Metcalfe.
In case you were unaware, today was the day the Teabaggers descended on Washington DC for their big protest march. About 60-70K attended according to ABC News*. Other events were held around the country for those middle-aged white folk who couldn’t make it to DC. Here are some photos of these “mainstream Americans” putting their “family values” on display.
Yeah, Obama’s the Antichrist. Nostradamus told me so.

“Trade” Obama back how? Like a slave?

Notice the open threat on this one.

He’s stupid, and he drives.

Any surprise the Confederate Flag is flying?

Of course video footage is always fun:
Sometimes there’s only one response for such absurdity;
For all of the frothing they do over The Sanctity of Marriage, and all the efforts they put into keeping same-sex couples from enjoying the rights they take for granted (a little too much for granted, really), RRRW Conservatives have proven themselves far too irresponsible with the institution of marriage. They commit adultery, they divorce, they commit more adultery, they divorce again, they hike the Appalachian Trail… All the while they proclaim themselves the arbiters of our morality! Truly, the only way to protect marriage would be to ban their participation in it.
Case in point; Assemblyman Mike Duvall of California. Mike is a rabidly anti-gay Republican who got a perfect score from the Capitol Resource Institute for his support of Proposition 8. He was so adamant that Traditional Marriage be defended against those nasty homos. Well Mikey reportedly cheated on his wife. It seems he cheated on his mistress too. Worse yet he described in lurid detail his affairs with the two women on the floor of the Assembly Appropriations Committee meeting. His confession was caught on tape. My lovely wife has full details and follow ups. It’s definitely NSFW, and I myself had to take a long, hot shower after hearing the specifics.
Divorce rates among Conservative Christians in the US are significantly higher than among other religious groups, and far higher than those of agnostics and atheists. About 90% of those seeking to commit adultery list their religious affiliation as “Christian” on an Internet site expressly for cheaters. Once caught in the act the typical response of the RRRW Christian is to deny as long as they can, then claim s/he “prayed and got forgiveness” and expect everything to return to normal (a few crocodile tears help if they can be mustered). It doesn’t matter how many people you harm or how much damage you do here, you see, so long as you say your imaginary friend gave you absolution (who can prove otherwise) and told you to keep on keepin’ on.
Marriage is intended to be a lifelong bond between mature, committed adults. Conservatives have, with their persistent adultery, divorce and utter disrespect for their vows, turned marriage into a mockery. If anybody has cheapened and essentially “destroyed” marriage it is they. Why are they allowed to project their shortcomings onto same-sex families, and deny us our rights as a result? If anybody should be denied the right to marriage in order to “protect” it, let it the people who have actually “destroyed” it; RRRW Conservatives.

Audon Felix Garcia died in a field near Bakersfield in 2008. This heartbreaking story reminds us what is at stake with the CA Employee Free Choice Act, which Governor Schwarzeneger just vetoed.
With one year left in his term, we can’t count on Gov. Schwarzenegger to change his heart or his mind. But the five declared or likely candidates for Governor — Jerry Brown, Tom Campbell, Gavin Newsom, Steve Poizner and Meg Whitman — can be pressured to pledge to sign this bill when the Legislature passes it again.

Sirius XM: Michelangelo Signorile interviews NOM’s exec director Brian Brown (And no, Signorile doesn’t drool all over Brown as Monica Hesse did.)
On Tuesday President Obama will spend 15-20 minutes speaking to the nation’s school children about the importance of staying in school and getting a good education. Pretty routine, innocuous stuff, right? Not if you’re a RRRW wingnut. Apparently in those 15-20 minutes Obama is going to undo countless years of parenting and churching, and indoctrinate their children into Atheist Muslim Homo Hitler Youth Nazi Socialist Commies. He’s apparently got far more power than I ever gave him credit for.
Now one would think from the furor over this that Obama was the first president to ever speak directly to students, or that at the very least no Republican president had ever done it. But as usual those who are rending their garments and making outrageous claims are forgetting history. This has been done before, more than once.
On November 14, 1988, Ronald Regan pushed tax cuts to school children from four middle schools. Unlike “stay in school and get a good education” that is a distinctly partisan political agenda.
…..
Today, to a degree never before seen in human history, one nation, the United States, has become the model to be followed and imitated by the rest of the world. But America’s world leadership goes well beyond the tide toward democracy. We also find that more countries than ever before are following America’s revolutionary economic message of free enterprise, low taxes, and open world trade. These days, whenever I see foreign leaders, they tell me about their plans for reducing taxes, and other economic reforms that they are using, copying what we have done here in our country.
…..
During the question-and-answer portion of the event, Reagan returned to the topic, this time telling the students that lowering taxes increases revenue:Q My name is Cam Fitzie and I’m from St. Agnes School in Alexandria, Virginia. I was wondering if you think that it is possible to decrease the national debt without raising the taxes of the public?
PRESIDENT REAGAN: I do. That’s a big argument that’s going on in government and I definitely believe it is because one of the principle reasons that we were able to get the economy back on track and create those new jobs and all was we cut the taxes, we reduced them. Because you see, the taxes can be such a penalty on people that there’s no incentive for them to prosper and to earn more and so forth because they have to give so much to the government. And what we have found is that at the lower rates the government gets more revenue, there are more people paying taxes because there are more people with jobs and there are more people willing to earn more money because they get to keep a bigger share of it, so today, we’re getting more revenue at the lower rates than we were at the higher. And do you know something? I studied economics in college when I was young and I learned there about a man named Ibn Khaldun, who lived 1200 years ago in Egypt. And 1200 years ago he said, in the beginning of the empire, the rates were low, the tax rates were low, but the revenue was great. He said in the end of empire, when the empire was collapsing, the rates were great and the revenue was low.
The students probably didn’t know any better, but this is an idea that has been rejected by virtually every economist not named Larry Kudlow.
…..
Then in 1992 George HW Bush promoted his personal education plan to students:
Lesson to the RRRW: Presidents speaking to school children is nothing new, and while Obama is (IMO) a crappy president he’s not going to turn your children into Gay Atheist Socialist Hitler Youth in the space of 15-20 minutes. A black man is going to speak to students about getting a good education, nothing more. You can deal with it like adults or continue to act like paranoid lunatics. The choice is yours.
Michael Steel has complained that nobody takes the Teabaggers who turn Townhall Meetings into chaos seriously enough.
“We are not inciting anyone to go out and destroy anything. We’re not organizing the town halls; their senators are,” he said. “But instead of focusing on the fact that people are genuinely concerned about what is going on, this administration has the arrogance, the arrogance to look down at my mother, to look down at my co-worker.”
So how does he react when a member of his audience gets up to tell him how her mother died because the current system is completely broken?
Go on, Michael Steel, and tell us another one about how the Democratic administration isn’t paying enough attention to the concerns of others, and is looking down on people and their mothers. Real people are dying as a result of the current system and you seem to think it’s all about getting airtime. Perhaps if Amanda Duzak had been screaming incoherently about “Death Panels” and “The Nazis” killing her mother you would have taken her seriously.
Cal Thomas is yet another right winger bloviating about how proposed changes to the health care system will bring about tragedy. But he goes a step further than claiming The Government wants to take us out of the decision making process. He insists the evil Liberal Secular (which in the eyes of the RRRW always means atheistic ) Left wants to take God out of the process. Now I don’t recall God being part of any insurance corporation, let alone all of them, but then I could be wrong…
…..
Underlying it all is a larger question: Is human life something special? Is it to be valued more highly than, say, plants and pets? When someone is in a “persistent vegetative state,” do we mean to say that person is equal in value to a carrot? Are we now assigning worth to human life, or does it arrive with its own pre-determined value, irrespective of race, class, IQ, or disability?
…..
Human life, regardless of race, class, sexual orientation, gender identity, socioeconomic class, IQ, disability, etc, is indeed precious. It is worthy of being nurtured and protected. What I can’t figure out is why the Right Wing is trying to pretend they’re champions for the needy, and that Liberals pose a great risk to them. It is the RW that persistently denounces and works against increases in the minimum wage that would provide poor people opportunities to support and sustain themselves. They fight tooth and nail funding for social service programs that provide aid to the poor, the disabled, the homeless, the elderly and other people who are less able or unable to care for themselves. They are the ones who insist homeless people are “bums” who want/deserve to be where they are and therefore shouldn’t receive anything. It is they who scream about their precious tax dollars going to “welfare mothers”. It was their hero Ronald Regan who critically cut mental health funding and closed psychiatric hospitals en-masse, literally dumping patients onto the streets.
The bottom line is not the bottom line. It is something far more profound. Our decisions regarding who will get help and who won’t are about more than bean-counting bureaucrats deciding if your drugs or operation will cost more than you are contributing to the U.S. Treasury.
I keep hearing this same refrain. “I don’t want some bureaucrat making my decisions for me”. Wake up guys. Bean-counters are already making your health care decisions for you. They work for your insurance corporation. They determine whether or not a particular claim will be covered and to what extent. Their job is to deny as much as possible so their CEO can maintain his gargantuan annual salary and the company can keep reaping immense profits. Of course that assumes you have insurance in the first place. You may be fortunate enough to have employer-provided coverage, but if you’re not then what? Have you ever tried to purchase your own insurance? It isn’t easy, trust me. Yet another way the insurance corporations maintain their bottom line is to deny coverage to people who have “pre-existing conditions”, which can include anything and everything. They’ll also deny you if you take certain medications or have had particular procedures done in the past. (I, for example, have been denied by multiple insurance companies because I have migraine disorder for which I take Topamax.)So essentially insurance is for healthy people who are unlikely to use it, but rather just keep paying their premiums and making nice profits for the corporation.
Do individuals like Cal Thomas think they’ll always be healthy and under the auspices of employer-provided health insurance? Do they think they’ll never lose their jobs or otherwise be at the mercy of the corporate beancounters whose job it is to deny, deny, deny? Of course maybe they’re just rich enough to pay for everything out of pocket in perpetuity which is why they don’t give a hoot about those who can’t.
The unnatural progression for many on the secular left is to see such a person as a “burden.” In an age when we think we should be free of burdens – a notion that contributes to our superficiality and makes us morally obtuse – getting rid of granny might seem perfectly rational, even defensible. But by doing so, we assume an even greater burden: the role of God in deciding who gets to live and who must die. Anyone who has seen the film “Bruce Almighty” senses how difficult it is to play God.
…..
Again, it isn’t Liberals who are persistently whining about various people being “burdens to society” and screaming for our precious taxes to be cut so we might not have to suffer as a result. We are not the ones who would allow men, women and even children die in the streets rather than part with a few extra dollars per year. We are not the ones who want the almighty dollar to dictate who lives and who dies. That would be the RRRW. (Perhaps that’s one reason they’re so insistent on having “In God We Trust” stamped on our money–there’s no way they can stamp “In Money We Trust” on their god. )
Reminder to Cal Thomas; it’s not “God” who is currently making decisions about life and death under our present health care system. It is corporate insurance bean counters.
The explosive town hall meetings are indications that Americans are trusting government less and less. So where should we go? The answer is in your wallet or purse. It’s on the money. Right now it is little more than a slogan, but what if it became true: in God We Trust.
Hey, I was right. It is all about the almighty dollar. And here I thought Thomas was claiming God had something to do with it all.
Katy Abram is 35-years-old and suffers from a great deal of consternation, as you can see in these videos.
Why is it any time the idea of something like providing healthcare for all comes up the wingnuts have to invoke Soviet Russia?
“I know that years down the road, I don’t want my children coming to me and asking me, ‘Mom, why didn’t you do anything? Why do we have to wait in line for, I don’t know, toilet paper or anything?’ I don’t want to have to tell them I didn’t do anything. As a normal citizen, the most I feel like I can do is come to this town hall meeting.”
There’s the epitome of slippery slope thinking, albeit the highly disjointed non-sequitur variety. Health care reform will lead to toilet paper shortages. And here I was told gay marriage was going to cause the end of civilization.
Is it me, or are the RRRWers getting even more insane? There are the Town Hall meetings where the people who stood by and said nothing about GWB’s 342 page Patriot Act (except maybe “if you haven’t done anything you have nothing to worry about) are now screaming that Obama’s health care plan is too long to understand and it “takes away their freedoms”. Now Sarah Palin chimes in:
“And who will suffer the most when they ration care?” Palin asks. “The sick, the elderly, and the disabled, of course. The America I know and love is not one in which my parents or my baby with Down Syndrome will have to stand in front of Obama’s ‘death panel’ so his bureaucrats can decide, based on a subjective judgment of their ‘level of productivity in society,’ whether they are worthy of health care. Such a system is downright evil.”
First of all, where does Palin get the notion that care will be “rationed” under a national health plan, particularly by “level of productivity”. Denying people things because they’re considered useless to society is a Republican trait, hence the screams that people like “welfare mothers” and “useless bums” shouldn’t get any precious tax dollars. Second, why don’t people like her realize that health care in the US is already rationed, but the poor and those who have health problems/”pre-existing conditions” are the ones being told to screw off and suffer?
While the health reform plan proposed by Obama has many flaws it is not a cross between Logan’s Run and Soylent Green. But it’s not the survival of the richest and fittest plan we currently have, which is preferred by the RRRWers, so of course they’re going to fight it every step of the way.
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again. I simply don’t understand the RRRW mentality.
