A 25-year-old youth pastor from a Tempe church has been arrested after admitting to officers he engaged in sexual acts with a 14-year-old girl at least three times over the last two months, according to Chandler police.
Joshua O’Bannion of Gilbert, who was working as an intern at Christ Life Church, 1137 E. Warner Road, was arrested at his home on Sept. 9 on suspicion of sexual conduct with a minor and sexual abuse, according to the Chandler Police Department.
That day, the 14-year-old girl disclosed that she had sex with her youth minister on three separate occasions in July and August, police said.

That is what I’ve been told countless times. Without God and the Bible there is no Objective Morality. Anything goes. People would be lawless, doing as they pleased, responsible for nothing. It would be utter anarchy because there would be no standards.
Steve Anderson believes in the Bible. Steve Anderson says that it would not be murder if somebody took a machine gun and killed a bunch of gay people. He claims it was not murder when Dr. George Tiller was gunned down in cold blood in his own church. Steve then says he wants Michelangelo Signorile to get brain cancer and die. Are these supposed to be examples of the “Objective Morality” of the Bible? If so, is it any wonder so many of us find them barbaric and reject them outright? Is it any wonder so many of us find nothing objective or moral about them?
The RRRW has been abnormally obsessed in recent years with God, Guns and Gays. Steve Anderson of Faithful Word Baptist Church is no exception. In fact, he takes it to an extreme. Anderson hates fags with a passion and advocates their death. He’s also wished for the death of President Obama.
It seems Anderson’s outrageous preachings are taking root. Look who showed up at Town Hall in AZ with an AR-15 slung over his shoulder. It was a man who claims Faithful Word Baptist Church is “The Best Church in the World”.
It appears Steve Anderson preached his I Hate Barack Obama sermon the day before the Town Hall meeting to which this man showed up with his AR 15. Coincidence? It’s possible but I really don’t think so.
Steve Anderson is an Independent Fundamentalist Baptist “pastor”. He runs a little “church” in a strip mall in Tempe, AZ. Andersons doesn’t have a college degree (they’re “unscriptural and wrong”) and in fact his only credentials are his claim that he’s “memorized over 100 chapters of the Bible”. Essentially he interprets the Bible as he chooses and has built his own faith and church from that.
Steve Anderson hates faggots. He hates people who don’t hate faggots as much as he does; as much as he believes God declared everyone should. He insists the only proper thing to do with faggots is to kill them. It’s what God demands, after all.
Here Steve rants and raves for over an hour about “queers, fags, Sodomites” and other things that cause him to foam at the mouth. I congratulate you if you have the stomach to watch it through to the end.
In one of his many essays, Steve gives his version of the “truth” about homosexuals. Did you know that Ham raped his father, Noah? Yeah, me neither. But according to Steve Anderson’s interpretation of the Bible it happened so it must be true. Of course the essay is also chock full of the “rape as a recruitment tool” lunacy that only the most demented of the RRRWers latch onto . It also has the more mainstream lie that all gay people molest children, though in a unique twist it purports that gay men molest both males and females. Yes, Steve is one of those who likes to push the “gays will screw anything” meme.
But wait–there’s more! Here’s Steve frothing at the mouth about gay people and calling for them to be put to death. He also states that he hates President Barack Obama and wants him to die, painfully.
Anderson and others like him have the ultimate scam going. They have no credentials and unlike with other fields they aren’t required to have any. They can just call themselves Pastor, Reverend, Guru or whatever, deem any little space a “church”–with all the associated tax exemptions and other perks–and start raking in the money. They can preach whatever absurdities and hatred they want, including advocating wholesale genocide of people they don’t like and calling for the death of elected officials, and claim it’s protected under their First Amendment right to practice their religion. When anybody dare utter a peep of protest they pull the religious persecution card. Regrettably I don’t imagine this will end any time soon as the United States refuses to knock religion off its pedestal and demand it be open to the same criticism and question as any other lifestyle choice.
Yeah, I know all of those RRRWers have been screaming about how their precious pastors will be arrested for “preaching the Word of God” if gay people get the same legal protections they enjoy. Of course most of them are merely hysterical bigots who don’t want LGBT people to have any rights, even hate-crimes protections. But on a more insidious level it seems some of them actually want to protect their right to perpetuate hatred and violence against gay people. For example, listen to Steven L. Anderson of Faithful Word Baptist Church in Tempe, AZ and see if what he says constitutes merely “preaching the Word of God” or if it counts as something more. You want to know who the biggest hypocrite in the world is? The biggest hypocrite in the world is the person who believes in the death penalty for murderers and not for homosexuals. Hypocrite. The same God who instituted the death penalty for murderers is the same God who instituted the death penalty for rapists and for homosexuals - sodomites, queers! That’s what it was instituted for, okay? That’s God, he hasn’t changed. Oh, God doesn’t feel that way in the New Testament … God never “felt” anything about it, he commanded it and said they should be taken out and killed.

At the United Nations’ Durban Review Conference on racism and xenophonia in Geneva this week, the United States has supported a motion to condemn “all forms of discrimination and all other human rights violations based on sexual orientation.”
“The Czech Republic on behalf of the E.U., with the support of New Zealand, the United States, Colombia, Chili on behalf of the South American states, the Netherlands, Argentina and a few others, took the floor in support,” reports UN Watch.

However, the United States’ support is a large step forward for on LGBT issues in the UN. Back in December, the United States refused to sign up to a similar statement condemning criminal penalties against people because of their sexual orientation or gender identity.
Perhaps the US just doesn’t consider denying equal access to marriage, adoption, employment, housing and other such things to LGBT people discrimination or a violation of human rights. It certainly doesn’t seem that it does considering such things are allowed to go on right here within its borders. Apparently they’re only violations when they occur elsewhere, and only then does the US denounce them.

The Christian Anti-Defamation Commission has published their list of the “Top Ten Instances of Christian Bashing in America”. Mind you I in no way condone actual threats, harm or abuse (verbal, physical or psychological) toward anyone. But as with most of their claims of “bashing” this top ten list is fraught with hyperbole and hysteria. And as with most RRRW Christian sources none of their claims, no matter how serious, have any citations at all. They know their like-minded readers are going to just take them at their word, but I certainly don’t, and you shouldn’t either. But on with the list.
INSTANCE #10: Jack Black Musical Video
In a short video posted on FunnyorDie.com entitled, “Prop 8 The Musical,” an all star cast of Hollywood celebrities perform a low budget musical farce that defames Christ, mocks Christians and distorts the teaching of the Bible. Jack Black played the lead role of Jesus.
Actually the video has Jesus come out and remind bigots who quote the tired old “the Bible says gays are an abomination (so they don’t deserve anything and that’s why it was good and righteous that we eradicated their right to marry and I don’t understand why people are questioning our deeply held religious beliefs blah blah blah)” that the Bible says a lot of things that even devout Christians don’t adhere to any more. They no longer refuse to eat shellfish, they don’t sell their daughters into slavery, they don’t stone their wives, etc. He also calls them hypocrites for picking and choosing because they don’t do any of those things yet continue to preach against gays and work to harm them. There is nothing in the video that defames Jesus or distorts the teaching of the Bible. Certain people are just ticked off because it exposes them for what they are. Hypocritical bigots who use their religion as a weapon against gay people and a shield for themselves against question or criticism of their actions. Watch it yourself if you don’t believe me.
INSTANCE #9: Bill Maher Gratuitously Attacks Pope
Bill Maher, host of the HBO program Real Time, made light of the Pope during his recent visit and the tragic sexual abuse scandal. Maher said, “Now I know what you’re thinking, Bill. You can’t be saying that the Catholic Church is no better than this creepy (radical Mormon polygamist) Texas cult. For one thing, alter boys can’t even get pregnant. But really, what tripped up the little cult on the prairie was that they only abused hundreds of kids, not thousands all over the world. Cults get raided; religions get parades… If you have a few hundred followers and you let some of them molest children, they call you a cult leader. If you have a billion, they call you Pope.”
How is anything Maher said wrong? For decades the Catholic church responded to sexual abuse complaints by intimidating and even threatening victims. They also moved offending clergy from one diocese to another in an attempt to quiet the storm in the former community. They essentially ignored the problem and many thousands of victims suffer needlessly. Only when secular lawsuits began did the Church finally have to admit openly there was a problem.
He urged efforts “to address the sin of abuse within the wider context of sexual mores” as well as a reassessment of “the values underpinning society.”
“What does it mean to speak of child protection when pornography and violence can be viewed in so many homes through media widely available today?” the pontiff said on the first full day of his US visit.
“Children deserve to grow up with a healthy understanding of sexuality and its proper place in human relationships. They should be spared the degrading manifestations and the crude manipulation of sexuality so prevalent today.”
Gee, it’s terrible about what those priests did to those children but–hey, look over there!!!
We shouldn’t worry about protecting children from predatory clergy because pornography is presently widely available? WTF? Not only is that a complete non-sequitur but he completely ignores the fact that 50-60 years ago when pornography was far less available priests were still abusing children. What is Pope Ratzi’s excuse for that? How about he just says “Satan made them do it” and be done with it.
Now lest anybody think I’m singling out the Catholics, I’m well aware that sexual abuse by church agents is rampant in many denominations. It’s to be expected where sexual repression is combined with deference to authority (particularly religious authority) and subservience of women and children. INSTANCE #7: Minnesota University Professor Desecrates Communion
A Biology Professor from the University of Minnesota, Paul Zachary Myers, recently desecrated a consecrated communion wafer from a Catholic Mass. Meyer’s has also asked people to steal the Eucharist for him in order that he might desecrate it and display it on his blog.
How is this Christian bashing? Meyers nailed the wafer, along with torn out pages of The Koran and The God Delusion (a popular atheist book) to a copy of The Koran. His message is that things are things and should not be made sacred/idols. Sadly those who prefer to elevate things and ideologies over humanity didn’t get it, and probably never will.
Tell you what. Rip up a Rainbow Flag. Shred a dozen. I don’t give a darn. It won’t harm one hair on my head or worry me for a minute. The rainbow flag is a piece of fabric and a symbol. Damaging or even destroying it would not be “bashing gays” or harming us as people. What harms me and my community is denying us equal rights, protections and freedoms under the law, and preaching that we deserve to be mistreated–even when you claim to be doing it out of “love”.
INSTANCE #6: Religulous the Movie
Bill Maher released a very shallow, pseudo-intellectual documentary entitled Religulous. The movie did not cover any new intellectual ground. It simply raised the old attacks on the faith. Maher studiously avoided being fair and did not allow for legitimate Christian answers from any leading Christian intellectuals.
Get over it. I didn’t hear any Christians denouncing the heavily biased Expelled, which was nothing more than Creationists decrying the fact that they couldn’t pass off their religion as legitimate science and claiming that was “persecution”. But of course any movie that fails to paint religion and the religious in a strictly positive light will naturally be denounced as “bashing”. They can dish it out by the pound but they can’t take it even by the ounce.
INSTANCE #4: Colorado Law Criminalizes the Bible
SB200, a Colorado state bill recently signed into law, criminalizes the Bible. Section 8 of the bill entitled “Publishing of discriminative matter forbidden” makes publishing the Bible illegal because it contains anti-homosexual passages. This is part of a larger effort to criminalize the expression of certain opinions and beliefs.
No they didn’t, and this is another instance of the RRRW misstating the content and/or effect of laws to terrorize their flock into a desired response. SB 200 merely added sexual orientation to a list of other “protected classes ” (which includes race, national origin, marital status, and religion–which I don’t hear them crying about) against whom discrimination is illegal. That, of course, is what got the bigots’ panties in a knot. They loathe the prospect of not being able to legally discriminate against us in the name of their “deeply held religious beliefs”. Mind you similar disinformation campaigns were waged with SB 777, Proposition 8, Proposition 102 and many others, promising all manner of horrors if they did or did not pass. They’ll do and say anything to protect their perceived right to keep us under their boot heels. Making themselves out to be the victims is only part of the game.
INSTANCE #2: Vice Presidential Candidate Sarah Palin Is Attacked
Alaska Governor, Sarah Palin, came under sharp attack by some in the mainstream media because she self-identifies as a Christian. The Washington Post published a cartoon by Pat Oliphant mocking Palin because she has a background as a Pentecostal/Charistmatic Christian. A suspicious arson fire at Sarah Palin’s home church recently caused over $1,000,000 in damage.
INSTANCE #1: Radical Homosexuals Assault Prop 8 Marriage Supporters in California
During and after the November campaign stories flooded in of pro-Prop 8 signs being taken, people verbally and physically assaulted, church property and private automobiles vandalized, and person’s jobs and pastor’s lives threatened simply for exercising their right to campaign and vote in support of traditional marriage.
Correction. Radical Homosexual Activists exercised their First Amendment right to protest when their right to marry was stolen by an organized campaign of hatred, intolerance, lies and big money. As I’ve noted previously there’s no such thing as “traditional marriage” so anybody who thought or claimed that voting Yes on Proposition 8 was anything but an act of anti-gay bigotry was lying, be it to themselves or others.
Furthermore, the protests were predominantly peaceful and while some acts of vandalism occurred there have been no officially documented instances where gay people engaged in unprovoked acts against others. The giant cross lady provoked those who stomped on her cross, the “white powder” has never been proved to come from anybody in particular, let alone radical homosexuals, and please note that CADC provides not one link to support their claims of these Gays Gone Wild assertions. If they’re going to purport that clergy were threatened and the like they need to back it up with citations–ones that have some form of proof that the people who engaged in the acts were gay and acting against the individuals because they were religious. Wild allegations simply won’t do.
Christians in America are not persecuted or oppressed, except in the imaginations of some individuals. People disagreeing with a belief or position, even in a contrary way, is not bashing. The people who do the most persecuting are the ones who whine loudest when their gilded seat of privilege is questioned or challenged. The bullies cry loudest when anybody dare stand up to them.
The Yes on 8 people should be proud they “protected traditional marriage” for bigamists, adulterers, spouse-abusers, death-row inmates and other such fine, upstanding citizens. My hat’s off to the bigots and their noble anti-gay crusade.
On November 4 California voters passed Proposition 8 by a margin of 52.3%-47.7%. Arizona voters passed Proposition 102 56.4%-43.6% . Florida’s Amendment 2 passed 62.1%-37.9%. Proponents of all three measures insisted they were merely standing up for what they believed in, defending tradition and upholding moral values.
I find that hard to believe. You see, when I was growing up I was taught about American history. I learned about the Declaration of Independence, the Constitution, the Founding Fathers and so on. I was told about the values this nation was founded upon.
We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.
It says there all men. I don’t see any exceptions or exclusions. But maybe somebody put them there in ultra-fine print or invisible ink and failed to inform me.
And the Constitution. I don’t recall anything in there that excludes certain people from enjoying the rights it bestows upon citizens, particularly in the Bill of Rights. In fact the Constitution has amendments that specifically mention that certain groups, who have historically been denied rights, are assured full equality.
Oh,yes, I learned a great deal about how various groups were hideously mistreated over the short course of American history. Slavery and segregation, Chinese people being used as virtual slave labor to mine and build the railroads, Japanese internment camps, the subjugation of women, various immigrants being relegated to the worst class status, etc. But we eventually realized the error of our ways and did what we could to correct things (save for certain bigots who will never learn and need to be relegated to the lunatic fringe of society).
It was in large part because of what I learned that I majored in Psychology and worked 20 years in Human Services. I had decided that I wanted to help people–to make their lives better. I wanted to undo the wrongs and set things right.
Tradition and values. To me tradition and values mean life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. They mean individual personal freedoms and responsibilities. The things this nation was built on, or so I was told for decades.
Now I’m being told–at least by the RRRW–that traditional values means regulating the lives of others to the Nth degree. It means making them live by your chosen religious beliefs even if you have to use force of law to do it. It means proclaiming one group the arbiter of what marriage, family, spouse, values and even morality are, then allowing them to dictate those definitions for the entire nation. It means letting millions of men, women and children be left out in the cold because the whims of the intolerant reign.
Sorry. That’s not my America. My America had values and morality. The only question is if it’s lost forever, or if it will finally reclaim itself from the quagmire.
