Sunday Smorgasbord: WH Meets With Atheists, More “Consequences” of Same-Sex Marriage, Etc.

Sunday, February 28th, 2010

White House officials met with secularist and atheist groups for the first time in history. Of course since religious groups have lost their exclusive access to the WH they must have tantrums over the event.

The supporters of Proposition 8 realize how poorly their side argued their case in Perry vs. Schwarzenegger. So now, like monkeys, they are pulling yet more poo out of their backsides and flinging it in hopes that something will stick to the wall.

…..
The potential harms they cited included giving bisexuals a legal basis for pursuing group marriages and unmarried fathers an incentive to abandon their children.
…..

Bisexual means a person can be romantically and sexually attracted to either gender. It doesn’t mean they’re inclined to fall in love with both at the same time. Of course the bigots like to push the notion that it’s the latter because then they can also pimp their slippery slope fallacy. OMG, if we allow same-sex marriage it might lead to POLYGAMY!!! Yeah, and people might start squeezing the Charmin too. Please people, protect the toilet paper and vote NO on Gay.

As to the claim that same-sex marriage would give unmarried fathers an incentive to abandon their children…that’s pure horsecrap. There are already millions of “deadbeat dads” out there and it has absolutely nothing to do with same-sex marriage. It’s high time that heterosexual people stop blaming gay people and gay unions for the failings of heterosexual relationships.

A student in a Maryland middle school refused to stand for the Pledge of Allegiance. Her teacher mocked her and called her names on the first day, and had the school police escort her to the office on the second day. It’s a good thing the girl wasn’t doodling on her desk….

Yet another Christian is crying “persecution” and filing a lawsuit because he thinks they shouldn’t have to share public space with others, or be pestered with the opinions of those who think differently. Perhaps a secured commune would be a better place for him.

Finally, this “Christian” charity will stop providing aid to Haiti if they won’t turn from their evil Voodoo ways and convert to Christianity. This is exactly why I despise most “faith based” charities–they don’t truly want to help but only to push their religion on others. The aid they provide is only a vehicle to gain more bodies for their god. There is nothing moral about what they do.

Some MD High Schools Pass Out PFOX Fliers.

Saturday, February 6th, 2010

Some high schools in Montgomery County, MD, sent students home with fliers from PFOX. It’s part of PFOX’s ongoing effort to push their anti-gay agenda into the nation’s schools, and foist discredited, harmful, bigoted “reparative therapy” on children. (Peter Sprigg, who declared that gay people should be imprisoned, is a board member of PFOX.) PFOX is flat-out lying to these children, and the school system is allowing it.

Some Montgomery County high schools passed out fliers this week from an organization that contends gays can become heterosexual through therapy, and the schools say they cannot prevent the use of their distribution system by such groups.

…..

The schools are required to distribute literature that isn’t deemed hate speech from any registered nonprofit organization four times a year, the result of a 2006 lawsuit, said Dana Tofig, a spokesman for the Montgomery County Public Schools.
…..
“These fliers are probably counter to what is available in our health curriculum, but that curriculum focuses on respect, and we respect freedom of speech,” said Patricia O’Neill (Bethesda-Chevy Chase), president of the Montgomery County Board of Education.
…..

She admits that what PFOX is pushing contradicts the health curriculum. Then she mentions “respect”, but where is the respect for the LGBT students who are being told they are broken, flawed, deviant creatures who need to “change” in order to please others? Once again the health and safety of LGBT citizens takes a back seat to the perceived rights of others to abuse them.

But hey, if it’s only about free speech and presenting alternative ideas to kids then when can we send the kids home with fliers telling them they can become Ex-Christians?

Michael Steel is a Hateful, Heartless SOB.

Wednesday, September 2nd, 2009

Michael Steel has complained that nobody takes the Teabaggers who turn Townhall Meetings into chaos seriously enough.

“We are not inciting anyone to go out and destroy anything. We’re not organizing the town halls; their senators are,” he said. “But instead of focusing on the fact that people are genuinely concerned about what is going on, this administration has the arrogance, the arrogance to look down at my mother, to look down at my co-worker.”

So how does he react when a member of his audience gets up to tell him how her mother died because the current system is completely broken?

Go on, Michael Steel, and tell us another one about how the Democratic administration isn’t paying enough attention to the concerns of others, and is looking down on people and their mothers. Real people are dying as a result of the current system and you seem to think it’s all about getting airtime. Perhaps if Amanda Duzak had been screaming incoherently about “Death Panels” and “The Nazis” killing her mother you would have taken her seriously.

Bigots Target American Apparel Stores for Vandalism Over “Legalize Gay” T-Shirts.

Wednesday, July 22nd, 2009

American Apparel offers a Legalize Gay T-shirt as a means of protesting Proposition 8 and all it represents. Some stores in D.C. and Maryland have the shirts in their front window displays and it has been causing some problems with intolerant bigots.

A local vandal may have found an antidote for the “Legalize Gay” T-shirts that have popped up in American Apparel window displays around the D.C. area—eliminate the window.

When Kassandra Powell arrived for work at the Silver Spring American Apparel store yesterday morning, she was met with a crowd, a police car, and a broken window. “I was told that the [security alarm] went off at 5:15 a.m.,” she says.

…..

This morning, the Georgetown American Apparel location experienced its own attack from an upset window shopper—this time, over the telephone. Around 10:30 a.m., visual merchandiser Walter Reed fielded a call from a male who was “enraged for no reason.”

“He was like, is this the Silver Spring location? And I said, ‘No, this is the Georgetown location, ‘” says Reed. “He said, ‘You have some Legalize Gay shirts in the window there.’ He said that he and his friends found it offensive, and that if we didn’t take them down, they were going to break it—the window,” said Reed. “I said, ‘Is that a threat, Sir?’ And then he hung up.”

…..

For now, Reed’s handiwork has been temporarily disassembled. “I took it down because of the threat,” says Powell. “It’s not because we’re trying to comply with their demands or anything—we just don’t want a broken window.”

Nice bunch of folks around there. Many of them have “God Bless” as the closing on their answering machine greetings and end every conversation with the same thing. If you’re gay or perceived to be gay, though, things can turn nasty, even vicious. God only “blesses” the straight people when you’re sitting atop the Bible Belt. I know it, and now the folks at American Apparel know it. Fortunately the bigots haven’t intimidated them. They’ll continue to sell their Legalize Gay T-shirts to anybody who wants them and they will run ads in local papers.

Nice try bigots, but you lost this one.

Tell Me Again How Belief and Religion Make You Moral .

Tuesday, May 12th, 2009

I’ve been told repeatedly how atheists by their very nature cannot be moral because they don’t believe in gods, and that gay people are hideously immoral because of (insert Bible verse and reams of religious dogma here). Funny how the usual suspects are so silent when it comes to things like this:

A Baltimore pastor who worked with developmentally disabled people was charged Friday with befriending a blind and disabled man in his care, then paying a hit man $50,000 in church funds for an execution so he could collect life insurance money.

Police say Kevin Jerome Pushia, 32, who worked for four months as an operations manager for the Arc of Baltimore before abruptly quitting in January, confessed to plotting to kill Lemuel Wallace.

Pushia told police he persuaded Wallace and “numerous” other mentally challenged individuals to list him as a beneficiary on insurance policies.

…..
Pushia was in custody while police look for other possible victims and examine whether Pushia had been plotting similar killings, said Maj. Terrence McLarney, commander of the city homicide unit. “We have a lot of work left to do,” McLarney said, adding that the case remains open
…..
Taken to the homicide unit, Pushia asked for an attorney, then admitted to the scheme, Ross wrote. Pushia said he had taken out as many as six insurance policies in Wallace’s name, worth nearly $1 million combined, and said he had policies on others.
…..

What kind of greedy, heartless SOB preys on disabled people like that? I worked for two decades with such individuals and it infuriates me when anybody takes advantage of or abuses them.

But then maybe he was just acting in accordance with his “deeply held religious beliefs” so I probably should hold off before I give him such a hard time. sarcasm
