That verse has been heartily embraced by many ultra-conservative religious parents and groups, particularly those who follow the teachings of individuals like James Dobson, Debi and Michael Pearl, or Jack Hyles. Many children have been harmed and even killed by parents using the “godly discipline” that’s nothing more than sadistic child abuse.

Kevin and Elizabeth Schatz apparently are of the “spare the rod, spoil the child” mindset. They are in jail after one of their adopted daughters died and the other was hospitalized following an alleged extensive “discipline” session.

OROVILLE — A fundamentalist religious philosophy that espouses corporal punishment to “train” children to be more obedient to their parents and God is now being investigated in connection with the death of a young Paradise girl and serious injuries to her sister.

Butte County District Attorney Mike Ramsey confirmed Thursday that other children in the home who have been interviewed told investigators “this philosophy was espoused by their parents.”

In court Thursday, a judge granted a two-week postponement before the children’s parents, Kevin Schatz, 46, and Elizabeth Schatz, 42, enter a plea to murder and torture charges that could carry two life terms in prison.

The Schatzes were arrested Saturday morning after their adopted daughter, Lydia, age 7, stopped breathing. She was subsequently pronounced dead.

Her 11-year-old sister, Zariah Schatz, remains in critical condition at a Sacramento children’s hospital, though she is showing some signs of recovery. The two were adopted at the same time with an infant girl, now 3, from the same African orphanage about three years ago,

Prosecutors allege the two victims were subjected to “hours” of corporal punishment by their parents on successive days last Thursday and Friday with a quarter-inch-wide length of rubber or plastic tubing, which police reportedly recovered from the parents’ bedroom.

Police allege that the younger girl was being disciplined for mis-pronouncing a word during a home-school reading lesson the day before she died.

He said investigators are researching a possible connection to an Internet Web site set up by “fundamentalist Christian people” that recommends use of the same whip-like implement “as an appropriate tool for biblical chastisement … to train a child from infancy to make them a happier child and more obedient to God because they are obedient to the will of their parents,” said Ramsey.

The district attorney said some of the Schatzes’ six biological children, who were removed from the family home for their protection following the parents’ arrest, have made statements suggesting the ridge couple shared this philosophy.

The other children in the home said the same rubber or plastic tube was used on all of them “as a standard method of discipline, but certainly not to the extent of these two girls,” Ramsey added.

Why we continue to allow “biblical punishment” to be promoted in any way is beyond me. Some people try to frame it as religious freedom and parental rights (generally code-speak for “I own my child and can do whatever I want to him/her no matter what you bleeding hearts say”). It is not. It is clear-cut child abuse.

 

It should seem self evident that rape wouldn’t lead to positive results, but sadly some misguided and downright hateful people seem to think that it is an acceptable form of “correction” for gay and lesbian individuals. They believe this so fervently that they’ll even have it done to their own children. So much for “family values”.

A ROCKHAMPTON dad is accused of forcing his son to have sex with a prostitute because he feared the 14-year-old was gay.

The prostitute took the boy into a motel room while the father waited on a balcony.

The dad walked in and out of the room to check on his son and told him he wanted to see a used condom as proof that they’d had sex. After the boy and the prostitute had finished the dad took his son home.

A magistrate yesterday found there was enough evidence against the father for him to stand trial for the rape of his son.

Sky News has found evidence of widespread abuse against the lesbian community - resulting in a new trend of so-called “corrective rape”.

In the the township of Khayelitsha, on the outskirts of Cape Town, Sky spoke to a group of women who said they live in fear of their lives.

All of them said they know someone who has been violently dragged off the streets and raped because they had come out as a lesbian.

One man roared with laughter as he said lesbians should be “whipped”. “There is no mention of lesbians in the bible,” he said.

They said they approved of lesbians being raped to “correct” them and to “teach them a lesson”.

They said “women should behave like women” and this was a way of “teaching” them that.

Jenifer Stitzel, 34, faces two counts of third-degree sex abuse following a complaint from the boy’s parents last Saturday, according to the Linn County Sheriff’s Office.

Sheriff Tim Mueller said the boy’s parents recovered his cell phone after grounding him. That was when they discovered the sexual messages, Mueller said.

“They were the kind of thing that you might read in Penthouse Forum,” Mueller said. “They were X-rated.”

Bill Donohue, certified bigot, recently appeared on The 700 Club. Among other things he made the claim that gay priests sexually abuse others at a higher rate than do heterosexual priests. Nothing new, of course. We’re used to being told gay=pedophile even though countless legitimate studies say otherwise. But facts have no place in the minds or the propaganda of bigots.

So they lie about it in the Catholic Church, they say “oh, we had a pedophilia problem.” It’s been a homosexual problem all along. It’s not my opinion, it’s the actual data from the John Jay Criminal Justice System College [sic] here in New York City which looked at the data. I’m not saying homosexuality causes predatory behavior; I’m saying that most of the priests who have been predators have been homosexuals.

Now that the preliminary report is out, how is Donohue going to react? Is he going to try to spin it as some vast, Leftist conspiracy against the Catholic Church? Is he going to claim John Jay College has been infiltrated by Homosexuals who want to destroy America? Or will he simply ignore reality in favor of his version of “The Truth”?

A preliminary report commissioned by the nation’s Roman Catholic bishops to investigate the clergy sex abuse scandal has found no evidence that gay priests are more likely than heterosexual clergy to molest children, the lead authors of the study said Tuesday.
The full report by researchers at the John Jay College of Criminal Justice won’t be completed until the end of next year. But the authors said their evidence to date found no data indicating that homosexuality was a predictor of abuse.

The RRRWers insist they should be able to prevent us from marrying (among other things) “for the sake of the children”. Perhaps there should be regulations regarding who can and cannot procreate. Just because one has functioning reproductive organs and is willing to have unprotected sex that doesn’t necessarily mean they should procreate and raise children. * The millions of children abused and/or neglected by their parents could testify to that. Case in point:

WICHITA — A Wichita woman convicted of prostituting her small daughter to a neighbor received a life prison sentence this morning.

The man charged with paying for sex with the child also received a life sentence.

The mother and her friend Reggie Stafford were each convicted of two counts of rape and one of aggravated criminal sodomy. The mother was convicted of aiding and abetting the sex crimes.

During a trial in August, the girl testified that when she was between the ages of 5 and 6, her mother would take her to Stafford’s house, near where they lived in the Planeview neighborhood, and he would have sex with the young girl.

Sedgwick County District Judge Greg Waller ran the mother’s life sentences concurrently, meaning the 48-year-old won’t be eligible for parole for 25 years.

But the judge made Stafford’s sentences consecutive, meaning the 52-year-old will likely die in prison. Under the law, he will not be able to face a parole board for 75 years.

Waller pointed to evidence he would not admit at trial that showed that Stafford had sex with the woman’s other two daughters when they were children. They are now grown. He could not be charged with those crimes, because the statute of limitations had run out. But Waller could consider the evidence during the sentencing.

Raising a child is serious business. Children are under their parent’s care, either directly or indirectly, 24/7 for 18 years. There is a great deal of damage a parent can do to a child in that amount of time. Yet we currently do nothing to determine if a person is fit for such a task. We only wait until they prove they aren’t, sometimes giving them multiple chances. Only after the damage–potentially irreversible damage–is done to the child(ren) do we take action.

Am I actually suggesting we restrict who can have children? Of course not. I value reproductive freedom. But it’s a travesty that teens and young adults are given no formal education/training in parenting. Such courses could avoid many problems with inexperienced parents (just because you can reproduce doesn’t mean you know what do do after–it’s not innate knowledge) and flag potential problems before they occur.

ANAHEIM — A 45-year-old Anaheim church pastor was charged Monday with molesting four underage girls whose families participated in his church’s outreach program for struggling congregants.

The alleged crimes date back to 2004, with the most recent attack occurring on June 1, according to court records.

In the most recent case, Jose Rama Campoverde of Anaheim is accused of touching and trying to kiss a 17-year-old girl while he gave her a ride, according to Anaheim police Sgt. Rick Martinez.

Campoverde is the pastor of Ministerio Cristo Vive church, which operates out of a business complex in the 400 block of South Euclid Street. All four of his alleged victims “were his congregants,’’ Martinez said.

He is charged with one felony count of a lewd or lascivious act with a minor on April 25, 2007; and five felony counts of lewd acts upon a child age 14 or 15 — on July 10, 2004, June 1, 2008, and March 1 and June 1 of this year; and two misdemeanor counts of annoying or molesting a child under 18 years of age, on March 1 and May 1 of this year.

Anaheim police suspect there may be more alleged victims, Martinez said, and are asking anyone with information to contact Detective Omar Adham at (714) 765-1623.

No, I’m not actually claiming that heterosexuality leads to sexual perversion. But if that headline made you bristle, just think about how LGBT people feel when we’re made the targets of specious attacks by people who seek only to harm us.

A New Jersey judge has dismissed animal cruelty charges against a cop accused of committing a sex act with young cows, saying a grand jury had no way of knowing whether the animals were “tormented.”

Moorestown police officer Robert Melia, who is currently suspended, allegedly engaged in oral sex acts with five calves in Southampton in 2006.

Since New Jersey currently has no law explicitly banning such an act, prosecutors in Burlington county brought animal cruelty charges against Melia, the Philadelphia Daily News reports.

The judge’s dismissal does not mark the end of Melia’s legal woes.

He, along with girlfriend Heather Lewis, was arrested in April 2008 for sexually assaulting three girls over a five-year-period.

Authorities investigating those charges reportedly uncovered videos on his computer of a girl being “subjected to sexual activity” in addition to taped encounters between Melia and the calves.

Time for an industrial size bottle of Brain Bleach to get those images out of my head.

John David Helmuth, 44, was arrested on Tuesday. He was charged with 10 counts of criminal solicitation of a minor and one count of attempted criminal sexual conduct with a minor.

According to a release from the attorney general’s office, beginning on June 23, Helmuth solicited sex online from a person he believed to be a 13-year-old. In reality, he was communicating with an undercover police officer, investigators said.

The arrest warrant stateed Helmuth arranged to meet the “girl” at Falls Park in Greenville to “kiss, hold, touch all over and have sex.” Officers said they arrested him when he arrived at the park Tuesday night.

Helmuth is the associate pastor at Tabernacle of Faith in Piedmont. He is also a recording artist and lead singer for the Christian group Elias. Investigators said what makes this case so disturbing is that Helmuth was in a position of trust.

MORENO VALLEY, Calif.—The pastor of a church in a Riverside County strip mall was sentenced to life in state prison Friday for abusing her five adopted daughters, who were beaten daily, fed spoiled food and hidden in a garage.

Banks was arrested in June 2005, about a month after one of the sisters, a bruised and emaciated 6-year-old, was found curled up on the pavement in front of a tax business at the strip mall.

The mall also housed Word of Life Apostolic Church, where Banks was pastor and the children attended school.

Authorities say the girls, who ranged in age from 4 to 11 at the time, were forced to wear two layers of diapers and long dark dresses and lived in a hidden room in Banks’ unheated garage.

Banks kicked and beat them daily with cords, sticks, high-heeled shoes, extension cords and belts, fed them spoiled food, made them take sleeping pills and sexually abused two of them with paint sticks, prosecutors claimed.

“How in the hell does a 50-plus-year-old woman who has no children… has no extended family, no other resources that support her, who in the hell let her have these kids in the first place and why weren’t they checking on these kids?” he asked.

Simple. She was a Good Christian Woman and a “Pastor” no less. There was no need to look beyond that.

A Valparaiso man will not be released from jail after being arrested on charges of attempting to have sex with a 15-year-old teen.

U.S. District Court Judge Andrew Rodovich filed the decision Wednesday in federal court, saying in his order that Wayne E. Wigglesworth, 68, had been shown to have previous contact with a 9-year-old boy after being told by Valparaiso police to stop.

Wigglesworth was arrested in August after police pulled his car over in Chicago. The 15-year-old boy, who was in the passenger seat, told police that he had met Wigglesworth on an online site, TeenChat.com, and that the two had exchanged phone numbers, according to a probable cause affidavit. Wigglesworth, who had told the teen he was 43, eventually asked to meet the teen so they could perform oral sex on each other, according to the affidavit.

The government had presented evidence to Rodovich that Wigglesworth, who was an ordained Catholic priest in Baltimore from 1967 to 1982, met a 9-year-old boy at his wife’s nursing home in Valparaiso in February.

Wigglesworth then called the boy two times before the boy’s parents found out and went to police, according to the detention order. Despite a police warning, Wigglesworth called the boy another time.
